Whitewater Rafting Trip

Dates: TBA

This is our last campout before the summer break and a great opportunity to soak adult leaders with water. Sign up deadline is to be announced.

Whitewater participants should meet by sheds on Saturday at 6:30 AM. Be on time; we will not wait for you. Eat before you leave. There may be a free breakfast but we’re not sure. Check in time is 9:05 AM; we will arrive home Sunday around 11:00 AM.

Listed below are the items we will need to bring on the trip:

1. Pack all normal items for an overnight (change of clothing, rain gear, hat, boots and sneakers, toilet kit, towel, jacket, a cup, water bottle, etc.). The Troop will bring tents but you can bring your own tent if you have one. If your tent is large make sure you can share with your fellow scout friends (we don’t want everyone to bring oversized tents). You do not need a mess kit; all food is served in a food pavilion…as much as you want. Make sure you eat breakfast Saturday morning.

2. Bring bug spray and sunscreen (SPF 35 or better). You can get a nasty burn just sitting in the raft. We will be on the water for about four (4) hours.

3. Bring money for snacks and souvenirs (lots of neat stuff).

4. For the rafting itself, wear a T-shirt, swimsuit or shorts, a hat, old sneakers or water shoes and sunglasses; apply lots of sunscreen. (PS: You will definitely want to wear water shoes more than the old sneakers. They can be purchased there for about $10.) Wearing your sunglasses with strap is a good idea. If you have to wear regular glasses, make sure you use an eyeglass strap (the camp store has them).

5. We will be jumping out of the boat to cool off and you may fall out of the boat so be ready to get wet. Bring a water bottle along as we will be having lunch on the water.

6. The Camp takes pictures of your boat going over the rapids. It costs $10.00 and is a nice picture.

Some things To Know About Whitewater Challengers Rafting: They have a big camp store and snack bar as well as all types of entertainment and skills programs available. There are movies at night and Scouts get a patch and a certificate for completing the Whitewater run. The people are very nice there and helpful so let’s show them that Troop 194 can display the same kind of courtesy.
