Equipment Lists

This page contains all of the Troop Equipment Lists. All scouts are REQUIRED to read the appropriate list for a campout or overnight and to be RESPONSIBLE for all items they need in order to participate.

Believe it or not, the most common item left behind is a pair of BOOTS! NEVER wear sneakers to go on a campout! You can bring sneakers in your pack to wear during the trip if the weather and terrain permit it; but when you arrive for the loadout, make sure that you have your boots on! Make sure to pack clothing in plastic bags to keep it DRY!

All the GENERIC LISTS (Overnight, Basic Training, etc.) can be modifed based on the season and the weather. Use your judgement.

All the lists are printable ordownloadable to your computer from the links at the bottom of the page.

SUMMER CAMP EQUIPMENT LIST (Revised 7/1/07)

What To Bring

  • Food. Check-in time is usually between 1 and 2 PM and no food is served at camp until dinner. Scouts should have lunch at home, or bring a lunch with them on the bus.
  • Completed medical form, two copies (if it has not been submitted to troop)
  • Scout uniform. Class A is required for the bus trip, on Sunday and for dinner all week. Class B is OK all other times.
  • Extra pants - (civilian) short and long
  • Windbreaker jacket and sweater. Bring a sweatshirt as it can get cool in the mountains.
  • Poncho or raincoat
  • Pajamas
  • Extra socks and shirts
  • Duffel bag or backpack
  • Swim trunks. Pack your suit with a towel for easy access on Sunday for swim test.
  • Underwear, t-shirts and shorts
  • Handkerchiefs
  • Proper footwear - hiking boots, sneakers, waterproof shoes, water socks or old sneakers for canoeing at lake. You need to bring three pairs of shoes.
  • Towels, soap, toothpaste, etc., plus any other personal gear
  • Sleeping bag or bedroll plus a cotton sheet liner for sleeping bag
  • Mosquito net for bunk (for those sensitive to such critters) plus poles and tape to hold the net up
  • Laundry bag
  • Flashlight with fresh batteries and spare bulbs
  • Personal first-aid kit
  • Pocketknife. A scout knife or something similar is OK. The blade should not longer than the width of the scout’s palm. A sharp knife minimizes the chance for an accident. » Scout must have their Tote ‘N Chip to use a knife.
  • Mess kit and canteen (might not need)
  • Drinking cup with tie cord or water bottle
  • Insect and tick repellent in a pump container. Do not bring an aerosol spray can.
  • Sun screen lotion
  • Scout Handbook. Make sure your name is in an obvious place
  • Wristwatch
  • Spending money (how much is difficult to estimate). Scouts taking certain handicraft merit badges, e.g., Basketry, Leatherwork, Woodcarving, usually buy a kit of materials needed for the badge, approximately $4.00 to $7.00 per kit. The Trading Post does run out of these items.
  • Note pad with pen or pencil
  • Camera with extra film
  • An 8 ft. x 10 ft. poly tarp, one recommended per tent to prevent leaks when it rains
  • Duck tape
  • 50 feet of cord, about 1/8 inch in diameter
  • Camp seat. Must fit in backpack

Remember: We must be self-sufficient for five and one-half days. We can’t go running off to a supermarket or drugstore to pick up an item we forgot to bring. Some personal items are available at the Trading Post but the one you forgot to bring is probably the one they don’t have. Mark your gear with name and troop number. Use waterproof marker.

Do Not Bring

  • An ax, hatchet, saw or knife with a fixed blade.
  • Bug or tick repellent in a spray can. It is flammable and scouts tend to spray it into a campfire. We then confiscate the spray.
  • Matches. The adult leaders will have all of the matches we need.
  • Any expensive equipment, i.e., camera, electronic games, flashlight, radio.
  • Anything that resembles or is a weapon, for example, a sling shot, or water pistol
  • Light sticks.
  • Candy, cookies or other sweet stuff. It attracts bears and other animals.
