2012 SUMMER CAMP - Well it’s time for the Summer Camp Medical Form-a-poluza…..
The biggest delay we have the day we leave for summer camp is the Medical Form clean up. The most important piece of information we need for summer camp is clean Medical Forms for everyone attending camp, yes everyone including adults. This year we are going to have a Medical Form clearing party at least a week before we leave for camp. This will allow us to address any issues before the Sunday we plan to leave. We will be announcing the date when we get closer to camp. This in no way should stop you from dropping off your Medical Forms if you already have them completed.
Here is this year’s breakdown of the forms we need: (we have some additions this year)
1. BSA Medical Form: Parts A and B parents fill out Part C requires a doctor.
2. Copy of your Insurance Card and Pharmacy contact information.
3. Drug Administration Record
a. Everyone needs to fill out section 1, this is for OTC medications (i.e. Tylenol, Benadryl, Hydrocortisone Cream)
b. Section 2 is required if your son takes any other medication.
4. Food Allergy Action Plan (if Required)
5. Medication Storage Release Record – this is for adults only that plan to keep their own medication and not store it with the medical office at camp.
We need three (3) copies of each form for camp. All forms are attached and located on our troop website (http://www.bsatroop194.org) look under forms and stuff -> Medical Forms. More details for Summer Camp can be found under the 'Special Events' section, click HERE for details.

Regarding Scoutmaster Conferences and Boards of Review for Star, Life and Eagle. All Scouts MUST be prepared to do the following before seeking a Scoutmaster Conference or Board of Review:
1. The advancing Scout must demonstrate Scout Spirit as well as the rank requirements.
2. He must have attended a minimum of 60% of the Troop meetings in full uniform.
3. He must have participated in 3 overnights or Troop activities defined by the Troop. One event MUST be a Camporee, the second MUST be Basic Training while the third campout or activity may be of the Scout's choice. This must be completed during the Scouting Year September thru July. Summer Camp does not count. A Scout seeking advancement early in the year must have shown that in the prior year he has attended the three campout minimum otherwise his advancement will be delayed until he shows a trend to do so in the new year. Call or speak with Mr. Rainey if you have questions. These policies are in the Troop manual and posted on our web site.
REMINDER, CBC (Criminal Background Checks):
Criminal background checks are required for ALL adults who attend an overnight activity with the troop. If you plan to camp with us or serve as a Merit Badge Counselor, please take care of this requirement ASAP.
LEADERSHIP:
Any Scouts First Class or above should be seeking or holding leadership positions of substance (SPL, ASPL, Troop Guide, Patrol Leader, etc.). Just teaching a class at Summer Camp or a campout isn't enough. This is a requirement for rank advancement. Scouts looking for leadership positions are encouraged to consider OA Troop Representative, if eligible. Also, we enter the time of year where we begin preparation for the Basic Training campout. We will need Instructors for several areas. This is a leadership position, and requires some time and effort from the Instructor(s) to prepare the materials needed. Subjects for Instructors include: Cooking, Map/Compass, First Aid, Knots/Lashings, Plant and Animal Identification. Other subjects need to be covered as well. Instructors are responsible for teaching scouts the skills needed for Tenderfoot, Second and First Class and should prepare a course outline that lists specific instruction areas as well as materials needed. There are specific requirements for each position detailed in the Scout Troop Positions Application. Also required is a signed Leadership Position Application (signed by the scout and his parent/guardian and submitted with the position outline). If you need a position, make sure to speak to Mr. Rainey at the next meeting!
All Scouts are requested to leave their cell phones, etc. at home or in the car during meetings and campouts. Leaders reserve the right to confiscate these items and return them to the Scouts (or their parents) at the end of the meeting or weekend. Older scouts should set high standards and good examples for the younger Scouts by giving them and the leaders the attention needed. Thank you for your cooperation!
