Welcome to BSA Troop 194 in Flemington, NJ.  Join our troop and be part of our proud Scouting tradition!  We meet 7:30 Friday nights at the Parish Center of St. Magdalen's RC Church, 105 Mine Street, in historic Flemington, NJ.

 Adult volunteers needed!!

Behind the scenes help needed, stop by the committee table for information on what is needed.  Remember: Your active involvement in the Troop means a better scouting experience for your son and every other boy in the organization.  Yes, it involves some work, but the rewards are enormous.  Give some time to the scouts; they will remember your contribution for the rest of their lives

Weekly Announcements

MEETING THIS WEEK - Board of Review, last meeting of the year.
We will have our last meeting of the year on June 19. All scouts are to bring a dessert or snack of their choice to share at our annual end of the year party.
The troop will provide beverages.

GETTYSBURG - a big thank you to Mr. Sheneman for organizing a fantastic weekend. Thanks to the Junior Leaders for their leadership and all the adults who assisted. We can't do these things without loads of help.

TENTS!!! - tents should be cleaned and dried before returning. Please make sure they have been properly packed (clean, dry) and note if anything is missing or broken. Several tents were returned wet, dirty and missing pieces.

COOKING MERIT BADGE AT SUMMER CAMP - Scouts interested in completing the Cooking Merit badge at summer camp need to work on some of the requirements prior to camp. The merit badge will be worked on during meal times, and each scout will need to cook (and eat) six meals at the campsite. A workbook with the requirements can be downloaded at:
http://www.usscouts.org/mb/worksheets/cooking.doc
Requirement #7 must be completed prior to camp. For 7d, a parent needs to verify that the scout prepared and served a breakfast, lunch, and dinner at home from the menu planned in 7a. (parents: please send an e-mail to
bob.valinski@gmail.com when the scout completes this)
Advance work on requirements 2,3, 5, & 8 should be done at home since no one likes doing paperwork at camp. The scouts will be cooking 6 of the meals planned in requirements 3 and 5. By getting the paperwork out of the way prior to camp, we can focus on the fun part of campfire cooking....and if we plan it right, we'll be having a delicious meal at the campsite while the rest of the scouts eat meatloaf in the mess hall!
Let Mr.Valinski know if you are planning on working on the merit badge at summer camp, or if you have any questions.

Eagle Court of Honor for Steve Perlack - 11:00 A.M. June 20th at the Parish Center of St. Magdalen's RC Church.

TRAILER WORK NEEDED - an adult is needed to plan and carry out the installation of the shelving for the interior of the trailer. We have the wire rack shelves. Construction details need to be worked out. Work detail and dates need to be selected. Floor needs to be painted also. Would be really neat if we can get this done before summer camp. Contact Scoutmaster Rick Rainey if you can volunteer for this project: 788-0234.

BSA UNIFORM NOTES - there may be some misleading  information floating around. The BSA Switchback pants (zip-off legs to convert  to shorts) are OK for any scout function. There is no need to purchase two  styles of scout pants. At summer camp, we will need to wear our “Class A’s” for  dinner. At other times, camp appropriate clothing is acceptable.

REMINDER, CBC (Criminal Background Checks) - required for ALL adults who attend an overnight activity with the troop. If you plan to camp with us or serve as a Merit Badge Counselor, please take care of this requirement ASAP. Contact Dan Kelliher immediately, 908-237-5678 or Dan.Kelliher@sungard.com.

Leadership: Any Scouts First Class or above should be seeking or holding leadership positions of substance (SPL, ASPL, Troop Guide, Patrol Leader, etc.). Just teaching a class at Summer Camp or a campout isn't enough. This is a requirement for rank advancement. Scouts looking for leadership positions are encouraged to consider OA Troop Representative, if eligible. Also, we enter the time of year where we begin preparation for the Basic Training campout. We will need Instructors for several areas. This is a leadership position, and requires some time and effort from the Instructor(s) to prepare the materials needed. Subjects for Instructors include: Cooking, Map/Compass, First Aid, Knots/Lashings, Plant and Animal Identification. Other subjects need to be covered as well. Instructors are responsible for teaching scouts the skills needed for Tenderfoot, Second and First Class and should prepare a course outline that lists specific instruction areas as well as materials needed. There are specific requirements for each position detailed in the Scout Troop Positions Application. Also required is a signed Leadership Position Application (signed by the scout and his parent/guardian and submitted with the position outline). If you need a position, make sure to speak to Mr. Rainey at the next meeting!

Electronic Device Policy: All Scouts are requested to leave their MP3 players, iPods, cell phones, etc. at home or in the car during meetings and for campouts. Leaders reserve the right to confiscate these items and return them to the Scouts at the end of the meeting or weekend. Older scouts should set high standards and good examples for the younger Scouts by giving them and the leaders the attention needed.  Everyone will be better off. Thank you for your cooperation!
