Welcome to BSA Troop 194 in Flemington, NJ.  Join our troop and be part of our proud Scouting tradition!  We meet 7:30 Friday nights at the Parish Center of St. Magdalen's RC Church, 105 Mine Street, in historic Flemington, NJ.

 Adult volunteers needed!!

Behind the scenes help needed, stop by the committee table for information on what is needed.  Remember: Your active involvement in the Troop means a better scouting experience for your son and every other boy in the organization.  Yes, it involves some work, but the rewards are enormous.  Give some time to the scouts; they will remember your contribution for the rest of their lives

DO YOU WANT TO SELL IN FRONT OF A STORE?

YOU MUST ORDER TODAY! PRE-ORDERING POPCORN IS DUE BY THIS SATURDAY AUGUST 28TH.

Please fill out the attached spreadsheet and email to Loraxreed@embarqmail.com

Before Saturday

please note product changes: popcorn now comes in re-sealable bags, with less packaging there is now more product, it is now healthier

Why sell popcorn?

·        The BSA helps build the future leaders of this country by combining educational activities and lifelong values with fun. In these economically challenging times the Central New Jersey council needs funding more than ever to help provide this service to our society.

·         To give you the opportunity to learn leadership skills.

·         To make your experiences with troop 194 more affordable

·         To replace worn or broken equipment

What do I have to do to make scouting possible?

·         Sell $180 dollars worth of popcorn; that is only ten people buying one bag each.

Our troop goal is $15,000.00. We need every scouts participation to reach that goal.

What if I don’t want to sell popcorn?

·         Selling popcorn is a very good leadership experience for scouts. I recommend every scout takes the opportunity to learn the skills necessary to sell a product. It teaches public speaking, marketing, and finance; however, if you are strongly against fundraising and would like to contribute financially our scouting community receives $130 when you sell $180 worth of product.

Leadership: Any Scouts First Class or above should be seeking or holding leadership positions of substance (SPL, ASPL, Troop Guide, Patrol Leader, etc.). Just teaching a class at Summer Camp or a campout isn't enough. This is a requirement for rank advancement. Scouts looking for leadership positions are encouraged to consider OA Troop Representative, if eligible. Also, we enter the time of year where we begin preparation for the Basic Training campout. We will need Instructors for several areas. This is a leadership position, and requires some time and effort from the Instructor(s) to prepare the materials needed. Subjects for Instructors include: Cooking, Map/Compass, First Aid, Knots/Lashings, Plant and Animal Identification. Other subjects need to be covered as well. Instructors are responsible for teaching scouts the skills needed for Tenderfoot, Second and First Class and should prepare a course outline that lists specific instruction areas as well as materials needed. There are specific requirements for each position detailed in the Scout Troop Positions Application. Also required is a signed Leadership Position Application (signed by the scout and his parent/guardian and submitted with the position outline). If you need a position, make sure to speak to Mr. Rainey at the next meeting!

Electronic Device Policy: All Scouts are requested to leave their MP3 players, iPods, cell phones, etc. at home or in the car during meetings and for campouts. Leaders reserve the right to confiscate these items and return them to the Scouts at the end of the meeting or weekend. Older scouts should set high standards and good examples for the younger Scouts by giving them and the leaders the attention needed.  Everyone will be better off. Thank you for your cooperation!
